What is a Shower Curtain Liner?

A shower curtain liner is the waterproof inner layer​ that hangs inside your tub (closest to the showerhead), behind your decorative outer curtain.

Outer curtain​ = for looks (fabric, prints, lace-like the aesthetic ones we style in our TikTok videos).

Liner​ = for function. It's usually made of PEVA, EVA, PVC (vinyl), or lightweight water-resistant polyester.

Both hang on the same rod with separate hooks. The liner is typically slightly longer to sit inside the tub and trap water.

Do I Need a Shower Curtain Liner?

Yes-if you're using a fabric outer curtain.​ Here's why:

Blocks Water & Prevents Floods

Fabric curtains absorb water. Without a liner, water soaks through and pools on your bathroom floor. A PEVA liner creates a waterproof barrier to keep water inside the tub.

Stops Mold & Mildew-Resistant

If your outer curtain is already 100% PEVA/EVA and labeled "Waterproof", a liner isn't strictly required.

However: Most US households still use a liner to extend the life of the main curtain and for easier cleaning.
